Objectives:
By the end of the course, students are expected to be familiar with different componenets of a personal computer and their function, Windows and its inslalation and troubleshooting, and working with important applications. In addition, students must be able to use different search and library methods to explore important databases relating to their field and recognize the library services of their university. Another objective of this course is familiarization with popular internet explorer software, such that student could use search engines and identify the leading websites of their major. Finally, students must be able to develop and apply electronic mail to send and receive files and letters.
Course Description:
In this course, students are expected to become familiar with different components of personal computers, Windows, internet, important websites, email and databases, so that they could practically use computers and the associated facilities for research and education in their field.
Course outlines (6 hours theory, 17 hours practical):
*Working with a personal computer:
· Recognizing different hardware components and accessories of personal computers.
· Application and function of hardware components and accessories of personal computers.
*Identification and execution of Windows operating system:
· Recognizing the history of advanced operating systems, especially Windows
· Features and capabilities of Windows
· Use of the “Help” option in the Windows
· Recognizing important practical Windows applications
Identification of Important Databases and Practical Software of the Field:
· Introduction and terminology of information delivery
· Identifying the reference book software on CDs and their use
· Recognition of databases such as Biological Abstract, Embase and Medline, and searching within them
· Becoming familiar with full-text electronic journals on CDs and searching within them
*Introduction to Internet:
· Familiarization with the internet
· Recognizing important internet explorers and their aspects
· Learning the adjustment methods of internet explorers for network connection
· Working and searching by important internet explorers
· Identifying a number of important related websites

Student Evaluation Method:
· In the cognitive area: students are evaluated by written exams in the middle and at the end of the term
· In the psychomotor area: students will take a practical skills test to use a computer, Windows and internet search using checklists
